Rachel Levine

Rachel Levine attended Harvard College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Subsequently, she pursued her medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine, graduating in 1983. After completing her medical education, Levine specialized in pediatrics and completed her residency at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Levine has had a distinguished career in the medical field, with a particular focus on the health and well-being of children and adolescents. She has been an advocate for LGBTQ+ healthcare rights and has worked to address the unique healthcare needs of this community.

In addition to her clinical work, Rachel Levine has held various leadership positions. She served as the Pennsylvania Physician General from 2015 to 2017. Later, in 2017, she was appointed as the Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, becoming one of the highest-ranking transgender public officials in the United States.

Levine gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic, as she played a key role in Pennsylvania's response to the crisis. Her leadership and expertise in public health garnered praise, and in 2021, she made history by becoming the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the United States Senate. She assumed the position of Assistant Secretary for Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
